We Interrupt this Wet Year ...

Most of Oklahoma dealt with extraordinarily wet conditions during
most of the year. The key words in that sentence are "most" and
"most". Recent weeks have turned quite dry, catching the attention
of many previously-waterlogged residents.

However, 2007 has been consistently dry for far northwestern
Oklahoma. In fact, the panhandle climate division's first 339 days
of the year (through yesterday) were the driest since 1970, a full
37 years ago.

The extreme dryness is underscored by the fact that the Mesonet
station at Goodwell hasn't recorded a quarter-inch of rain on any day
dating back to July 11th:

Thank You

The response to our Dust Bowl plea has been overwhelming. And not
"overwhelming" in a hyperbolic way. It was literally overwhelming,
in that we haven't been able to thank all of the wonderful Ticker
readers for the many, many leads and stories. We're about halfway
through the list of "thank yous" and we have 50 more to go.
