I want my 2 degrees
It's a little-argued (but arguably true) fact that almost all classic movies
occurred in the 1980s...your Lethal Weapons, Die Hards, and Road Houseses, to
kname (why should "knee" have all the fun?) a few. And the same for comedies...
your Fast Times at Ridgemont Highs, Airplanes, and Sixteen Candleses.
But none rise higher than the John Cusack-led "Better Off Dead."
Now many elevate this masterpiece to cult classic because of the demonic paperboy
that constantly harassed John Cusack's character, Lane Meyer, for the two dollars
he owed for the newspaper delivery. Others might say it's because of the
disgusting caricature of Dan Schneider's helpless Ricky, and his obsequious
mother, Mrs. Smith.
But no! That's not where the movie's genius lies. It's in Yuji Okumoto's (you
know him as the villain from Karate Kid 2) character that learned to speak
English from listening to Howard Cosell on "The Wide World of Sports" (google,
kids). He'd periodically pull up alongside Cusack and goad him into racing against his
brother, who actually spoke no English. All in that nasally Cosell voice.
Why did you need to know (these k's are killing me!) these useless facts? FACTS
I SAID! Well, just to parallel what make summer so magical. No, it's not the
100s, nor is it the never-ending sunshine. It's not even that sickly ripping
sound you make when you lift up off your car seat (hey, it's an 80s theme, when
all the car seats were made of vinyl!).
No, it's when you have that sudden switch in temperature when the unbearable
heat becomes, uhhhhh...bearable.
THAT'S the genius of summer, and that's what we're gonna see this Thursday as
a rather strong cold front, given the season, enters the state just in time
for August. Can you imaging lows in the 60s, and highs in the 80s and low 90s,
for 3 or 4 days over the weekend? Especially after our current heat wave?
What's up with the 10 consecutive days at or above 100, Grandfield? And those
heat index values in the triple digits are on a 2-week straight run, adding
today in, of course. And that'll extend through the next couple of days as
well, too, before the relief on Thursday.
We'll also see rain chances go up with that cold front, especially across
northern OK.
Now doesn't this look nice?
2 degrees...I want my 2 degrees back!
