W(h)ite out
Know what's scary (no mirror jokes, please)? For all my life, I thought "Wite-Out"
was "White-Out."
Know what's even scarier (no scalp jokes, please)? I was more of a Liquid Paper
fan, so who cares, right?
So as you can see from the top graphic, Oklahoma is now free of ANY color from
the US Drought Monitor intensity scale: D0-D4. Now you may be saying to yourself
"But Gary, I thought we were drought-free LAST week for the first time since
July 23, 2019?"
First off, don't call yourself Gary...it'll cause you trouble in life. Secondly,
don't ever capitalize your thoughts. It'll hurt your brane. See?
No, you weren't imagining things. Remember, Drought Monitor drought is D1-D4, while
the D0 is saved for the non-drought designation "Abnormally Dry Conditions,"
signifying areas going into or out of drought. And, well, this week those D0
areas from last week did indeed go out of drought, for the first time since
June 25, 2019.
That's nearly a year in dog-years, 6 in actual years, and 37 in Gary-working-on-
drought-monitor years. It's been a LONG 6 years, in other words.
By the way, whatever happened to "drouth?" Maybe we can change the Drought
Monitor to "Drouth Monitor?" Sounds more poetic that way.
Speaking of poems...there once was a man from Nantucket...okay, STOP RIGHT
THERE! I see where that's going.
We have more rain chances coming up over the next 3 days, maybe with a bit of
severe weather to go with it.
Heck, it's raining right now for crying out loud!
After that? Summer.
Oh yeah? Same to you.
