Okie from Allerg-ee

Wait, what? An AFTERNOON Ticker? Well, don't be worried (well, you can go ahead
and worry, but know I'm getting help), nothing monumental going on. I was just
working on a new song with my OCS band, The Dusty Derelicts, called:

"Okie from Allerg-ee"
(parody of “Okie from Muskogee”)

We don’t mind a windy Oklahoma morning,
'Til it rolls in with that cedar-scented death.
We step outside to greet the day with courage,
Then sneeze so hard we nearly lose our breath.

'Cause we're Okies out in Allerg-ee,
Where your car turns yellow overnight.
That cedar pollen’s fallin’ like a blizzard,
And those Bradford pears just ain't smellin' right.

We tried to plant some shade trees in the backyard,
But Lowe’s was out of anything that’s sane.
They sold us Bradfords with a wink and promise —
Now our lawn just smells like rotting fish and shame.

Yes, we're Okies here in Allerg-ee,
We’re inflamed from sinus to our knees.
We take our meds, we rinse with nasal washin’,
Still sound like we been barkin’ in the trees.

Yes, we're proud to be Okies from Allerg-ee...
Where the trees may win the spring — but not the war! 🌲💨😤

Well hey, they can't ALL be hits. Eat your heart out, Merle.

The point of today's Ticker (HA HA!) though is to say, if you have missed out
on the rain, well don't worry. We do have some more coming over the next few
days, and then there's June. As you can tell from the top two maps, June is
actually wetter than May for some locations, but both months are fairly wet
for Oklahoma, climatologically speaking.

For the next couple of days, though, we're aiming directly at my old hometown
of Buffalo (really, you can't tell which Buffalo from my accent??), and the
surrounding areas.

The problem, and there's always at least one, is that the rainfall could come
with some nasty stuff. No, not Strawberry Pop-Tarts, but I like how you're
thinking there.

With the OTHER nasty stuff.

Yes, the tornado threat is low, but definitely not zero. We're now up to at
least 58 tornadoes for the year thus far according to preliminary NWS numbers,
including the two big EF3 monsters from Arnett (May 18) and Pittsburg (May 19),
so we don't want to add to those totals (although that number will continue to
rise as the NWS folks investigate more damage paths).

Heck, it's storming right now, for crying out loud!

Just keep it down. I'm working on my next song..."Chainsaw Serenade in Cedar
Minor."
