Bzzzzzzzzztttt

There are two good things about drought (yeah, I went there): no flooding, and no
mosquitoes! My top graphic probably doesn't amount to a lot to most folks (hey,
how long you been reading the Ticker until you finally discovered that!), but to
me, it's what kills my spring and summer Every. Single. Year. Ya see, mosquitoes
are drawn to me like flied to honey, like Keanu Reaves to Winona Ryder (ahem...
"Bram Stoker's Dracula" anyone?), like Okies to chicken fried steak.

They like me a lot. A LOT. So every spring I watch for the temperatures to go to
70s for highs and 50s for lows, and lots of rain and whatnot for mosquito eggs
(the worst Eggs EVER!) to hatch in. I'm afearin' we're at that point.

DEET causes my skin to burn, especially when I take a shower, so Deep Woods OFF
isn't really a good option for me, and if you're in the Deep Woods, you want
more stuff ON, not OFF, anyway!

This is a minor issue though, obviously, but it brings us back to one of the
realities of living in a place like Oklahoma, with such violent-at times-weather.
We needed rain, desperately in some areas, and we did have some wonderful totals
here and there over the weekend. But it was way too much in too short of time
in lots of places, as was feared before the storms. Being Oklahoma, those
storms brought lots of not-nice-stuff with them, the worst of which was the loss
of lives due to the flooding and the half-dozen or so tornadoes.

The severe weather isn't over (is it ever?) this week, as we will have several
chances for storms coming over the next several days. It doesn't look like
outbreak situations, but it is Oklahoma after all, and these things can get
worse as the forecasts evolve.

There will be a risk of flash flooding with the Tuesday storms, especially
across western Oklahoma.

Hey, you know where there won't be a mosquito problem for awhile longer? The
western Panhandle, where they froze their booties off this morning...the
mosquitoes AND the people.

You know what's better than mosquitoes (other than EVERYTHING?)? Mesquites.

Good for BBQ. Looks good as furniture. No DEET needed.
