Fall Fail

That old saying "If it's gonna be cold, might as well destroy the world"...wait
a moment, I'm being told that's not correct. Okay, that's MY old saying. The other
one I guess goes like "...might as well snow." Well, that's exactly what happened
this weekend. We had a good swath of 6-8 inches up in NW OK, with Beaver leading
the way with 8 inches.

Hey, it didn't shock me! Nothing to do with Oklahoma's weather really shocks me
anymore. Well, except the occasional stray lightning bolt, but my baldness-cure
guru over there in Bulgaria swears that 1.21 jigawatts of electricity will give
me a new field of follicles not seen in these parts since Will Rogers. It can
sting though. But as I said in my Ticker of last Tuesday, all hope for a good
snow wasn't lost just yet. However, the winter storm also came with a glaze of
freezing rain, which made travel darned near treacherous, if not overly so, and
that brought a slew of accidents all the way down into central Oklahoma.

It also brought moisture to parts of the state that were sorely missing the wet
stuff and allowed us to reset some nasty looking consecutive days maps.

But what this weekend's front/storm system mostly brought was WINTER. It's not
like we're too far off from the actual turning of that season (Dec. 1 for
climatological winter, Dec. 21 for astronomical winter), but we were basking
in some lovely autumnal temperatures until this cold disaster. We even got
dangerously close to some record low temps up across northern OK this morning.

As you can see from this here statewide average high temperature departure
from normal map, it HAS been rather nice for most of November...at least
temps-wise.

We'll get back to that for a bit, and also another chance for moisture coming up
Wednesday-Friday'ish. However, it WON'T be in the form of snow this time.

Not seeing much signs of a return to winter just yet, either.

Looks like the world is safe for another day...or 14.
