Sadistic Statistic
Yes, me again...I know there's probably nobody reading today, what with everybody
trying to get an early start on the long weekend, so let's Tock for just a
minute. Myself? Oh, I'm just watching the cardboard futures. You may remember I
struck it rich a few years ago when cardboard was 15 cents/ton. I had bought 3
tons...well, you do the math! Later on I'm working on my 3rd album titled:
"My Barometric Pressure Is Low, So Why Are You High?"
I'm sure it'll be a hit. One of my finest works was a couple weeks back when I
proclaimed the end of summer. No, don't go looking for it, it's been scrubbed from
the internet. But you will also remember that I was making that prediction out of
hope, and not much else. Although I did add the caveat that it wouldn't be an
actual end to summer, but an end to the SUMMER summer that we were having, as
proven yesterday by the sadistic statistic that our summer finished as the hottest
since 2011, and 9th hottest since 1895. Welllllll, we have been inching back
towards that SUMMER summer for awhile, but not quite as bad.
Right, so my prediction still holds. Even our 90s have been curtailed over much
of the state. And our hundreds?? Forget it. Haven't seen one in 5 days.
Now today, I'm not so sure. With a front coming this way for tomorrow, MABYE
some compressional heating ahead of it? Maybe a stray hundred up in the NW?
We'll see. Maybe a triple-digit heat index from eastern OK? We'll see. The
front won't come through until overnight into tomorrow morning and afternoon,
so we'll have a chance. We're certainly a bit moist for this time of year, with
dewpoints up into the 70s. Even had an 82 a couple days ago. Right now, poised
to make things miserable in the sun.
And it's not just us...the Gulf is open for bidness, as they say. No, I don't
know who "they" are, but they're probably not working today.
Now if you are getting rain, and cloudy (it would be WEIRD if you were getting
rain and there were no clouds!), then you might get "lucky" like we did
yesterday in central and southern OK.
I put lucky in quotes because it wasn't your Grandpappy's 70s. I was outside in
it sweating, the air so thick it felt like I was breathing through a hot, warm
washrag (Okie to English translation: "wash cloth"). But it sure beats some of
you who had those heat index values in the high 90s and low 100s. Well, there
will be some more of those today.
Other than that, showers and storms on and off over the next couple of days,
then we start to watch the tropics. No, not THOSE tropics, the eastern Pacific.
In case you haven't heard about it yet, there is a tropical system down that
way that MIGHT develop into a named storm or close to it, and MIGHT come up
this way and bring us some more rain later next week.
It's very iffy, and probably not worth mentioning, which is why I did exactly
that...mentioned it! Nobody tells me to only write stuff worth mentioning.
Okay, enough Tock. We'll end this Tick because I need to find more space to
store another couple of tons of cardboard.
