One of THOSE days

Yep, another one of THOSE days in Oklahoma. You know, when the TV meteorologists
come on the air and tell you to take cover because of severe weather and so,
like any self-respecting Okie worth their Great Salt Plains, you decide to go
outside and see for yourself and the golfball size hail puts knots in your
noggin faster'n you can rub 'em? Well, beware NW OK, because it's your turn
today.

Same old setup that has plagued us forever...cold front, dry line, low pressure
system approaching the state will kick off storms in the Panhandle and far
western OK. The storms will probably go severe quickly and begin rotating, the
discrete supercells possibly dropping significant tornadoes before lining out
as the cold front catches up with the dryline and marches across the state. At
that point, severe winds becomes the biggest hazard, but you can't rule out
some of those quick twisters within the line where some cells might still be
rotating.

But hey, rain!

Right, more in the east and less in the west, but if you're in drought and you
get some, good on ya. If you don't need any, this too shall pass. The rain
sticks around for a few more days. Then another cold front for Friday drops
us down into proper October territory for a day before we go back into the 70s.

Oh by the way, the state will probably see its first freeze sometime this week.
Maybe a frost in the next 2 or 3 days in the Panhandle, but Saturday morning,
sometime around 4:23am...winter arrives.

(insert bugle playing "Taps" here)

Just a tad early for the western Panhandle, but pretty close to their average
first freeze.

Some folks yearn for that first freeze for allergy relief, pest relief, and
just to make me angry. That's okay. It'll be summer again before you know it.

Next Friday, maybe?

2021.
