You're darned tootin'

When's fall coming? Ma'am, I answered your question! I answered the darn...look,
I'm cooperating here! Fall will come sometime a week before winter, and about
2 days after summer ends sometime in October. But we've already seen a good
preview of what's to come the last couple of mornings, and yesterday afternoon
was glorious in the dry air.

We can just start to see the magical State Fair effect on our weather at the
far reaches of the forecasts from our NWS friends.

But to get there, we have to get through the next few days of nastiness. One plus
is that the air is dry, much drier than we've seen for most of the last couple of
months, and it is on its way down.

HOWEVER, the dry air is not all good because with those types of temps, low
relative humidity, and winds we'll see this weekend, you then gin up some
pretty severe fire danger.

Not helping matters is a continuing dry-down across parts of the state, which
is not that unusual for August and early September, but it compounds some
earlier deficits that are becoming accounted for on the Drought Monitor. You can
see the changes just over the last month on the Drought Monitor maps, and where
we are today.

And the 30-day rainfall maps are pretty pitiful across much of Oklahoma, even
for this time of year.

So we look towards next week and those corny dogs...I mean cold fronts, that
will bring us a chance of rain, hopefully. Not seeing too much on the 7-day
rain forecast map, but I'm thinking it will kick in a bit wetter coming up
in the next few days.

You're darned tootin' we need rain!
