The reckoning

Hard to beat today, at least for early February, with highs forecast into the
60s and maybe even a few 70s. That's also what I used to forecast for my grades in
meteorology back in college...and THAT'S why I'm not a forecaster.

(I'll have you know I was a solid "E" student, because I refused to be limited to
the standard A-F scale)!

Today wasn't so bad either...again for early February.

We should enjoy it whilst it lasts, since a series of cold fronts will continue
to erode the warm weather, with a final blast early next week that could (COULD,
mind you), bring us some of the coldest weather we've seen this season. Take a
gander at the forecast temperature map from the GFS model for next Tuesday at
6am.

Yeah, that's the reckoning, I reckon. You can see that cross-polar flow that
everybody's talking about (REALLY? Well, you're not hanging around the right
people!), with the air flowing straight down from the polar region and blobbing
down across the central U.S. It's also showing up on the CPC temperature outlook
for next week.

Still little in the way of moisture showing up during this time frame, so don't
get your sleds down just yet...but don't put 'em up either! We've seen these
things change pretty rapidly before.

The probabilistic model from our good friends in the Great White North see very
little chance of accumulating at least an inch of moisture through the 17th,
in fact.

We'll see. We're still under the La Nina regime in the equatorial pacific,
so it's always something to watch, rapid drying with any type of warm up could
cause us problems.

No problems today, however! Enjoy it whilst it lasts.
