Welcome to the party, pal!
Yes, that DID escalate quickly. And yes, I DID mix John McClane in the title with
Ron Burgandy in the meme. And YES, I do know the correct quote is "Boy, that
escalated quickly." All rules are suspended. This morning's freezing weather
managed to work itself across the entire region, leaving most of Oklahoma with
a mid-April freeze. Look throughout the 3-day cold snap and you see some folks
ended up with multi-day events amounting for more than 20 hours of below-freezing
weather.
In some areas, we again got very close to the historical record low temperatures.
Kenton broke it's record low of 21 degrees, set way back in 1945, at 19 degrees,
this morning's lowest temperature. Hooker hit 23 degrees to beat the previous
mark of 24 from 1911, for crying out loud.
The cold weather over the last few days, complete with lots of clouds and
rain/snow, have sent our soil temperatures headed backwards a bit. Here are
the 1-day average soil temps at 2, 4, 10 and 24 inches across the state.
You can see the impact of the cold weather even striking the 10-inch
level way down south at Altus. When it hits that 10-inch level, you know
you've been in a bit of extended cold weather. To match up with the maps, the
5 cm, 10 cm, and 25 cm levels match up with with the 2 in, 4 in, and 10 in
levels, respectively.
You can check the soil temperature changes at your local station here.

Things will go up from here, with a good warming trend for the next week (save
for a bit of a blip on Friday).
No 40s for highs, at least!
You stay classy, Mother Nature.
