Snoozecember
Drought is the most exciting thing we have to talk about today. Yeah, not so fun
if you're in it, and not so fun to read about it either. For climatologists,
however, that's about as exciting as it gets. We don't have similar graphics
as above for the Amarillo, Tulsa and Shreveport NWS offices that cover other
parts of the state, but the weather is so boring that one will suffice. A cold
front or two over the next week, maybe some rain with them (but maybe not), and
temperatures staying out of the extreme ranges on either side of normal. Good
shopping weather? Driving weather? Not good if you need rain, however.
Check out the last 30 and 60 days across the state. Not good in most of western
through north central Oklahoma. And for some of those folks, it's been a LONG
time since they've received a significant bout of moisture.
Yowsa. And the U.S. Drought Monitor map for the state just keeps adding more and
more color across the northwest.
How about later next into next weekend? Well, somebody forgot to hit the snooze
button.
But not so fast my friends! Those outlooks were made yesterday afternoon. Some
models are starting to show a significant cold snap for next weekend, with some
of the coldest air of the season. And it doesn't go away, either, sticking
around for several days. We're talking single digit lows and highs in the teens,
with below zero wind chills. Here's a hint with one models depiction of the
wind chills for late next Saturday night.
That's a long time away. Many things might change between now and then.
But, many things might not. Then, things get a bit more exciting.
