Jultember
By the way, how much longer can I use the old "lump two months into one" shtick?
As long as you keep sending those cards and letters, that's how long! But
seriously Mother Nature, that was really uncalled for. I mean, we needed the rain
and all, but the winds? In late July?
You have a lot of growing up to do, that's all I'm sayin'. Speaking of the rain,
some very nice totals last night splattered right in the center of the state,
and that ends a pretty nice wet period over the last 5 days for late July.
Good moisture from the Panhandle down through central OK into the SE and NE,
places that definitely needed the moisture. Unfortunately (there's always one
of those, isn't there?), that area along the Red River that has been so dry
for so long missed out for the most part. Even down there in Jackson/Tillman
counties where about 1.5 inches fell, the deficits are still enormous (kudos
to Eufaula for the 8 inches above normal, however).
Those types of deficits produce pictures like this, from far SW Jackson County.
Other areas that received an inch or so, I'm hearing that it was welcomed, but
in many cases it wasn't even enough to make it muddy. When you're battling the
types of deficits that I showed you earlier, and add in the heat of summer, it
will take better rains than that to both soak into the soil and replenish
ground water and runoff for farm ponds.
The good news is it's still raining! And there's another blob of storms hitting
Osage County, which largely missed out last night.
Aaaand, temperatures will be lovely for the next couple of days before
returning to more seasonable values late in the week. Nothing drastic, however.
Enjoy the next couple of nights outside. Those mosquito eggs are being laid
as we speak!
(I don't really know that, I'm not an enta...enti...enty...mosquito-ologist).
