Nerd up!

Come on, who else besides me saw a Klingon Bird of Prey when they looked at that
rainfall footprint from last night in western Oklahoma? HAH, liars! It's okay,
the Ticker is a nerd-safe zone (and us nerds can better appreciate the thought of
"Klingon rain" than "Klingon reign...*shudder). But you know what else I see?
How the heck do you track drought with those kind of rainfall events. You have
Putnam getting 1.11 inches, then a 10-mile wide area of rain to the southwest, a
larger blob of similar rainfall totals, then another thin sliver of heavier rain
to the southwest again. What do you do, go section line to section line tracking
drought? And some of the folks that received the rain are extremely thankful, but
the ones that didn't need the rain, farmers trying to harvest wheat, it's a
nuisance. But, it will come in handy in greening up those pastures and making the
ground a little more workable for any planting.

We're still set for next week's tropical intrusion of moisture from the Gulf of
Mexico. Doesn't look like Hurricane Bud is up for a trip to Oklahoma, but a
disturbance from the Gulf will bring a trigger for rain. The entire country looks
to be a rainy mess next week. We have the remnants of Hurricane Bud impacting the
Rockies, a frontal system way up north, and the marauding hordes (of moisture,
not Klingons!) coming up from the Gulf...all set to make the 7-day rainfall
forecast map a mess!

A lot of that is shown on the CPC 3-7 day hazards outlook map.

With the rains and cloudiness next week, we should come back to earth on the
temperatures for awhile, maybe even below seasonal norms, which would be
nice. Until then, we're gonna continue to bake, and unfortunately it'll be a
moist heat. It is downright soupy out there, especially across eastern
Oklahoma.

By the way, I could have gone full nerd and added a line or two about Romulans.

Live long and precipitate.
