Mesonet Ticker: Frigging cold edition

Really, Kingfisher and Chickasha? -12 degrees? REALLY? Was that really necessary?
Well, unlike December's massive polar plunge, this arctic transformation
was more of the classic Oklahoma edition...a layer of fresh snow, clear skies,
light winds and the presence of arctic air. You can see it in their meteograms
as the winds die down and the temperatures plummet last night. And yes, I know
how to spell Chickisha! It's "Chickasha."

Chickasha tied their all-time low temperature record which was originally set back
on Dec. 23, 1989. Chickasha temperature records data back to 1901. Kinfisher's
all-time record low is -20 degrees set back on Feb. 10, 1929. The Kingfisher
Mesonet site recorded -18 degrees back on Feb. 10, 2011 (-3 degrees at Chickasha
that night).

And remember, that's not taking into account the wind, which is making things
even more miserable. Here's the current windchill, and the minimum windchill
overnight.

Certainly one of the coldest January 7ths in Oklahoma history.

I don't know what else to say. Pray for Wednesday?
