100s in October?
Not TOO unusual. 100s in mid-October? VERY unusual. In fact, the 102 at the
Slapout Mesonet site yesterday was the highest temperature this late in the year
in state history, topping the previous "highest temperature this late in the year"
of 101 degrees at Healdton back on Oct. 17, 1972. Now if we can hit 102 degrees
today, we'll advance that record by one day AND top Oct. 17th's highest temp
ever recorded.
But with all this heat, building drought out NW and strong winds, we're in for
lots of high fire danger. As Fire Marshall Bill indicated, the high heat just
doesn't work well this time of year.
As always, never fear, a cold front or two is on the way!
But don't get too excited (I've warned you about those sweaters!)...next week
doesn't look like fall has decided to stick around just yet.
Oct. 17 is the latest date in OK history to have seen 100s. We'll probably match
that today. Probably not tomorrow. Probably.
Okay, I've showed you something.
