Oh, it's going to rain during the State Fair?
Ladies and Gentlemen...and the rest of you, you ask for drought relief I give you
the Great State Fair of Oklahoma!
Yes, it's a tired old joke, but based somewhat in reality in that it falls at the
beginning of our secondary rainy season. Plus it lasts for 11 days, so the odds
of it actually raining during the State Fair are better than decent. But this year
looks like it will see rain, and possibly heavy rain, from the get-go. Not what
the Fair organizers hoped for, but I don't make the weather, I just report it!
The Fair starts on Thursday the 15th, but in actuality the big opening day is
on Friday the 16th. Here is the forecast for the fairgrounds during that period
from the NWS office in Norman.
Thursday
A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Thursday Night
A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Friday
Showers and thunderstorms likely. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Friday Night
A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.
And here are some graphics to go along with our rain chances coming up BEFORE
the Fair begins.
And then another detailing the rest of the week, at least from the Norman NWS
forecast office's area of responsibility. But it gives a good indication of what
could happen for the rest of the state.
All of this comes after a sweet burst of Autumn which saw lows drop into the 40s
and 50s statewide (take yesterday, for instance):
With the clouds and rain chances, we will be back down to more seasonable temps,
but probably not to the degree that we saws over the weekend. And today will
be a little bit warmer than yesterday.
Fear not, Fair goers. The sun will come out today, maybe tomorrow, and after
the Fair starts, probably on Saturday and Sunday. You can bet your soggy corndog
on that.
Saturday
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny
Sunday
A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 83
