Well at least SOME of you tried
When we last Ticked (we've only Tocked since then), we spoke about that Ring of
Fire over the Southern Plains due to the HEAT DOME OF DEATH. But we also mentioned
that around the periphary...perephary...perifary...AROUND THE NORTHERN EDGE of
the heat dome, there would be the chance for some showers. And sure enough, there
were some areas that have received repeated showers and storms over the last
week or so. We've awarded those with close to 2 inches gold medals, since it is
August, then silver and bronze awards for the others that have gotten wet. Sadly,
for that area from central down through southern Oklahoma, you get the old
participation medal. You can blame the heat dome if you want, but come on...did
you really practice hard enough? Here's a medal free map for an accurate look at
your area.
So some places have been hot, other places have been really hot, and other places
have been miserably hot. Oh, you got rain? Well have a 114 degree heat index, Red
Rock!
But with that stalled front that has hung around and given us our rain chances
up north, Hooker has started to stall on the home stretch of summer, allowing
other folks to nearly catch it in the triple-digit temperature race.
Hollis is now tied at 24 days thus far at 100 degrees or higher, and Grandfield
and Kingfisher are close behind. Some of those areas down south have seen 8-9
days in a row with 100+, and that should continue today.
How about some good news? All eyes now point towards this weekend as it does
appear the heat dome will break down and move to the west, allowing a nice cool
front through the state. That will come with chances for rain and highs actually
below normal for a change.
Until then, baste...I mean bask in the glory of summer.
