BORRRRRRRRRRINGGGGGGGGG!!
Other than a minor snow event earlier in January and a bit of a spring preview
with some severe storms on February's first day, the new year has been
downright boring. So boring this is the 3rd or 4th time I've pointed it out.
Unless you live somewhere from Hollis up to Cheyenne and then over to Lahoma back
down through El Reno, that is. Otherwise, light rain and occasional wildfires have
been your biggest weather entertainment modes.
Now I wouldn't be writing about this again so soon but it now looks like we're
back into a good 7-10 day BORRRRRRRRRRINGGGGGGGGGG pattern. Maybe we're needing
some boring, but I also know we need some rain across the SE half of the state,
regardless of what fell in November and December. Unfortunately, Mother Nature
doesn't appear to be playing along with any remedies. This is about as white as
I've seen a 7-day precip forecast for the western 2/3rds of the country. Ever.
And according to the medium-range CPC outlooks, that's going to continue past
that as well.
If it's going to be this boring, it could at least be warm, but again...Mother
Nature ain't playing.
El Nino just doesn't seem to be playing along either. The last storm system
that did bring rain and storms to the state tracked to our north, leaving us
out of the main excitement (i.e., the blizzard conditions that racked KS and
NE), thankfully, but it might have been more rain down this way. It's not too
late to see the subtropical jet strengthened once again and a nice series of
storm systems move across the southern tier of the U.S. The other danger is that
they travel too far SOUTH so we again miss on the big impacts.
But apparently we don't have to worry about that for a week or so. I wish we
had better weather in store instead of just this blahhhhhh seasonable, windy
stuff with highs in the 40s and 50s coming up. Maybe a bit warmer later into
next week? For now, not so much.
So if you like cool, windy and dry conditions with a hint of fire danger, the
following 7 days will be to your liking.
For the rest of us...BORRRRRRRRRRRINGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!
