The W-Files
I'm Fox Mulder. No wait, that's that other show.
After a good month of suffering, we finally returned to what I term "decent"
weather over the weekend with highs back into the 50s and 60s. Then another
cold front spoiled that yesterday and here we are again, languishing in actual
winter-like temperatures.
However, as the Arctic Oscillation stands up and stretches its legs, taking it
back into positive territory (meaning the polar jet is strengthened, and that
frigid arctic air becomes trapped far to our north...and notice that big, long
dip in the AO through much of January!)
and no storm systems in sight for the rest of the week, our temperatures will
just go ahead and glance at February and head straight for March. At least
for awhile, culminating in a glorious (yet windy and wildfiery) weekend with
highs in the 60s and 70s. And that may be a bit conservative according to some
of our local NWS forecasters.
All good things must end, however, and it does appear there will be another
storm system with cold air (fairly certain) and possible precip (very uncertain)
cross our area next week. At least at this point, however, it looks like it's
going to take a quick curve to the northeast before it gets here. You can see
that in the 7-day precip forecast, although remember, STILL VERY UNCERTAIN!
Following that, the 8-14 day precip outlook from CPC shows a very un-El Nino
like precip pattern with increased odds of below normal moisture in the
Southern Plains and the wetness to the north.
Oh well, a couple of days from now, we'll get a nice spring preview for a bit.
Lock it in, the WARMTH is out there!
