Yay, the cold front is ALMOST here!
Now listen, I'm not going to say I stayed hidden in my house all weekend,
frightened and confused in the fetal position, due to the oppressive conditions...
I mean, I did emerge about 9pm each night. But this did happen this weekend.
Yep, that's a 118 degree heat index at Okmulgee on Friday, and it wasn't much
better than that in other areas through Sunday. Let's remember Vinita also hit 118
degrees back on July 24, so this is nothing new, but I think it was a bit more
widespread this weekend. Before you ask, that's not quite a record for the
Mesonet. We have to go way back to August 1999 to find the Calvin site's 125
degrees (dang, I wish I could capitalize numbers) on the 9th of that month. Notice
we had a couple of other sites hit the 120 mark that day, so it could always be
worse!
As I said, yesterday was no picnic either.
But on to better news! We have one more day of nastiness and then we drop back
down to more reasonable levels on the miserable scale. A slow moving cold front
is kicking off showers and storms as we speak across northern Oklahoma.
This has meant a big cool down for northern Oklahoma, but the front is moving
slow enough that eastern and southern Oklahoma are still going to bake.
And then we get the nice cool down!
As for the rain, this is mainly a northern Oklahoma thing, it appears, although
there will be lesser chances to the south. But amounts altogether appear slight
except for the Panhandle region.
White it appears "hot" later this week, nothing like what we saw for the last
week or so.
Finally, to the slow SLOW moving cold front, I just want to tell you good luck,
and we're all counting on you.
