Boise City Ark preparations possibly too late
I'm not sure if Tommy Boy checks out Mesonet data, but I think that would be his
reaction if he saw the rainfall maps after the Mesonet site at Boise City,
normal average rainfall of 18.77 inches, recorded a whopping 5.96 inches of
rain in the last 24 hours
courtesy of this blob of storms moving slowly to the east.
You can see the accumulation as it happened on the Boise City meteogram (and it
actually looks like that 5.96 is sort of a local minimum according to the radar
estimate overlay...the reds indicate 8+ inches).
Now the highest daily rainfall total at the Boise City Mesonet site is 3 inches
back on Oct. 23, 2000, and the maximum MONTHLY rainfall is 6.13 inches back in
August 1999, and the maximum ANNUAL rainfall is 23.61 inches, so 5.96 inches
in 24 hours nearly topped the site's monthly record, and is a good portion of
its maximum monthly total. Regarding the 24-hour vs. daily amount, there is a
difference. The 24-hour amount could be within any 24-hour period, but the
daily value is contained within the midnight-to-midnight period. However, the
rainfall since midnight Mesonet map shows 4.29 inches of that total fell during
the current calendar day, so July 31, 2015, just rewrote the Boise City Mesonet
record.
To compare it historically to the greatest daily rainfall events from the NWS
COOP site at Boise City (period of record: 1-31-1908 to current), it shows it
would rank as the 2nd highest daily total on record.
Hopefully that rain will continue to spread east and give those parts of the
state starting to dry out a good soaking. There are also showers scattered
about central and northeastern Oklahoma.
It would appear that most of those showers will remain across far western OK
tonight according to our friends at the local NWS offices.
At any rate, enjoy the milder weather (and rain if you got it) while you can.
It won't last forever!
For folks in Boise City...KOWABUNGA!!
