It's gonna rain?

Maybe not where you are, but somewhere. Hey, don't blame me, I warned you not to
move there (unless it was Buffalo, of course, or anywhere in the Panhandle). The
latest 7-day rain forecast shows the best totals, from 1-3 inches, across the
western quarter of the state, although it does appear everybody has a chance for
a little bit here and there. Given that it's summer, some will get a ton and some
will get very little.

And it's raining RIGHT NOW in far northern Oklahoma.

Given that we're pasty white (same as me) on the Drought Monitor map, this is
still good news since we might be seeing some yellow creep into a couple of areas
if we aren't careful.

If you look at the 30 day rainfall maps from the Mesonet, the two areas in
question are a bit glaring.

Yes, my shapes on the map WERE inspired by Gleep and Gloop from the "Herculoids."
How did you guess?

You can see the impact the sun has had across southern Oklahoma with all the
evaporating, helped along by all the plants growing and whatnot. The percent
plant available water in the top 4 inches of the soil is getting a bit sparse.
And that is starting to extend down into the depths of the soil as well.

Just something to watch. That D0 (abnormally dry) area is starting to creep
north from NE Texas, and also out in the NW TX Panhandle.

Just something to watch. Even the last 60 days are showing a bit of weakness
in those areas.

Other than that, enjoy the rain if you get it, and enjoy the cooler weather
for a couple of days. Looks like back in the fire after that for next week.

Wherever the heat dome goes, so follows misery.
