The record warmth will continue...until I say it can't!

I wish. I'd take it right through to April, unfortunately. Record warmth in the
winter to me is like handing a pyromaniac a match. We shattered records yesterday
with highs in the upper 70s and even some 80s across the SW corner of the state.
Most other areas saw mid-60s to the mid-70s.

That 81 degrees recorded at Mangum ties several other locations back in history
as the 14th highest temperature ever recorded on January 26 in Oklahoma. Idabel
holds the record for the day with 87 degrees back in 1950.

Oklahoma City shattered its record high yesterday with 77 degrees, besting the
previous mark of 71 on that date back in 1911, 1912 and 1999. Tulsa tied their
record with 71 degrees as well, also set first back in 1911. We should see more
records fall today as the warmth continues, even as the northeastern part of the
U.S. deals with blizzard hysteria.

We'll have an even warmer day on Wednesday before the bottom begins to drop out
with a cold front tomorrow night. Back to reality after that with temperatures
getting closer to seasonal norms, if not a bit lower than that, as we hit
the weekend.

The good news is we will have a chance for more moisture. Again, not a drought-
busting rainfall, but good enough to wet that wheat in places and keep fire
danger down for a few days. There could be a bit of snow with the system, but
nothing calamitous it would appear at this time.

Enjoy this burst of spring in January. The real thing is right around the
corner, after all. Unless Mother Nature goes all over Oklahoma-crazy on us and
goes right into summer.
