Welcome to Fall

Above normal temperatures without end...blowing dust...hot, blistering sun...
little green on the rainfall maps. Sounds like a wonderful fall day. Can't you
just smell the apple cider?? Oh, that's the smell of moisture being evaporated
from the soil, and further draw-down of our lakes and ponds. As we talked about
last week, this is NOT how I thought this rainfall map would look like, but you
get what Mother Nature has to offer (lately, not a lot!). Things have really
started to dry down since all that rain from late May through July. A few spots
have had really good rainfall, but most have not. In fact, we've just gone
through the 20th driest Aug. 1-Sept. 23 since at least 1921.

And there's not much rain on the near horizon (is that even possible??) either.

CPC thinks they've sniffed out some moisture for next week in their 6-10 and
8-14 day outlooks, but those are merely increased odds of above normal totals
for those time periods. We're not exactly in May here..."above normal" is
relative, but anything would be welcome.

Even the Canadians give most of the state a fairly low chance to see at least
an inch of moisture accumulate for now through the Oct. 8 period.

The state is fairly non-green at the moment, at least for this part of the
calendar. With all that growth we had due to the rains through summer, and the
sudden dry-down, we're going to be looking at wildfires in awhile if the
proper conditions crop up (or down).

Okay, that's as negative as I can be today. I'm trying to trick Mom Nature
into giving us rain with the old reverse psychology. Sort of like she pulled
with us last week (Odile!).

Let's see if it works.
