Winter is nigh!
Hide the women and hatches and batten down the children! In case you hadn't heard
yet (where ya been?), there is a sorta strong cold front scheduled to enter the
state later today and make its way across Oklahoma by tomorrow. It will get cold
enough that the entire state (sans McCurtain County) is expecting a hard freeze
(the Panhandle has already had theirs, the lucky devils, so they don't need a
"hard freeze warning" like the rest of the state). Also see the Mesonet hours
at or below freezing map to see who is in for a rude awakening. Most of the
lowest lows thus far have been of the 30-32 degrees variety.
Depending on where you're at, this warning is either for tonight through Wednesday
morning, or Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. Here are the forecast lows
for the next few days.
Even the highs are going to be 15-25 degrees below normal after the front
tomorrow, and not too much better the following day (although it will be in
the 60s in the Panhandle, so all the more reason to visit the best part of the
state!).
Here's how the local NWS offices are depicting the frontal timing. Watch out
for freezing drizzle Monday night in the Panhandle!
(kudos to the Amarillo office for this nice Veteran's Day graphic)
There is a chance for rain with this system, although this go-round, nothing
in the major variety is in store for the state.
There does appear to be better chances at the end of the week and into the
weekend. At least it's showing up on the 7-day rain total forecast map from
WPC.
Word has it next week might see even colder air than this. Can I sleep until
spring?
