Better luck next time, Kenton
Well, I doomed Kenton's chance to lead the state in rainfall for September by
writing a boastful Ticker last week about how there was NO WAY anybody else could
catch up. Then comes along big bad Burbank with it's gaudy 6.5 inches total for
the month, eclipsing poor little Kenton's 6.2 inches.
This last rain turned out to be a bit more substantial than previously thought,
and all things considered, ended as probably one of the better statewide rains
we've seen all year.
It didn't exactly turn September's totals all the way around, but it did help
northwestern Oklahoma, especially.
So the state will *probably* (covering my patootie) end up with a statewide
average, as measured by the Mesonet, of 2.6 inches, 1.21 inches below normal. Now
that's only good for the 51st driest since records began in 1895, but it ranges
across the state from the 13th wettest in the Panhandle (2.95 inches on average,
1.07 above normal) to the 27th driest in south central Oklahoma (1.71 inches
on average, 2.63 inches below normal).
The month will finish significantly warmer than normal, that much is certain.
Warm weather appears in the making all week with out next chance of rain coming
... you guessed it, next weekend. Here's an early look at the totals.
No doubt that will change as the weekend draws nearer.
At any rate, congratulations Burbank, for ruining Kenton's parade (by the way,
it only takes 23 seconds for a parade to traverse Kenton's Main Street).
