Southwest OK trying to catch up

No, that's not a dig at those folks. They've had indoor toilets and electricity
for some time now. I'm talking moisture, and they've gotten into the act in the
last few days after missing on most of the good rains. Yes, it could still
better, but the 1-2 inches in that small corner will do wonders for the soils
down that way. And there are more showers headed that way. Here's the rainfall
map showing the rainfall in the last 24 hours.

That brings the August statewide average thus far to 1.84 inches, about 0.8 inches
above normal. Still drier than normal down across southern Oklahoma, but that
is made up for by what has fallen since mid-July. The July 9-August 12 statewide
average was 6.94 inches, 3.8 inches above normal ... 4th wettest such period since
1921.

August 1-12 Rainfall

July 9-August 12 Rainfall

Hold onto your boats, but there is more big rain in our forecast, which would
surely push August into above normal territory before the first half is over.
The 7-day forecast calls for an additional 2-3 inches of WIDESPREAD rainfall
across the state.

The person that said we don't go into an Oklahoma summer looking for drought
relief is sure looking foolish right about now. Ahem!

Oklahoma City's annual rainfall total through midnight last night of 43.77
inches is already the 9th wettest year for that site since records began in
1891, and there's still 5 months to go!
