Another deficit bites the dust
WAKE UP!
Yes, that was a lovely little alarm clock of a storm system Mother Nature provided
last night into this morning. We got it about 5 a.m. at my house, so those north
of us got an even earlier wake up call. But, thus is life when needing convective
precipitation!
This is the deficit map for July I showed you back on the 18th:
Lots of red and orange in them thar hills of eastern Oklahoma. Now check out the
map of last night's rainfall and then the new deficit map for July.
What a difference a week can make, eh? That widespread 3-5 inches across far
eastern Oklahoma really did the trick, as well as the 1-2 inches up in north
central Oklahoma. Check out the totals for July thus far.
Over 7 inches in Le Flore County as well as up in Osage County ... two areas
that were primed for drought intensification!
The statewide average through this morning (and it's still raining!) is 2.96
inches, which is about 0.9 inches above normal for July 1-24, and the 19th
wettest such period since 1921. AND IT'S STILL RAINING!
Not only that, but more rain is forecast over the next couple of days as that
cold front sags into the state, bringing more cool weather (some of these
forecast totals are inter-mingled with what fell this morning).
Now we just need some for the far northwest, really the last bastion of dry
July weather. They're painted in the heavy rain area on that forecast map,
so we'll see if it's finally their turn. I know there is at least one little
pond up around Buffalo that could use a good rain right about now.
