Jinx Schminx
Several kind souls e-mailed me yesterday and said I was going to jinx the rain
event that EVERYBODY else had been talking about. Now that's just silly talk, of
course. I don't believe in superstition, and there ain't nothing going to hold
this rain back (knock on wood). Just check out the radar picture from a few
minutes (my time) ago.
Oklahoma seems to be the epicenter of this storm system's focus at the moment.
Some nice rains have already fallen since late last night, especially just
SW of OKC. The Chickasha and Ninnekah Mesonet sites will challenge the 2-inch
mark here in a bit.
Not much has changed for the predicted amounts. Still a good chunk of the state
expected to garner 2-3 inches.
Today's rain is just the beginning, with chances continuing for the next few days.
After a warm up this weekend, next week is looking active as well with another
storm system on tap. That is showing up already on the 6-10 day CPC outlook.
Remember, this map is for PROBABILITIES, not amounts, and it indicates increased
odds of above normal precipitation across Oklahoma for the April 7-11 time
frame.
It is cold, obviously. Stupidly cold. Stupid cold fronts. But I digress. The
good news is it appears most of the state will escape a hard freeze. Lows look
like they'll drop down into the lower- to mid-30s over the next couple of nights,
with some sub-freezing temps in the northwest. I see no forecasts for those low-
to mid-20s, however, that would knock the hair curlers out of those delicate
wheat plants.
We're rapidly approaching the average date of the last freeze across the southern
half of the state, and a few weeks away for the latest freeze.
Still a ways to go for both up across the northwest and the Panhandle. Hey,
you have to pay some price for living in paradise!
Jinx schminx. RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN!
