It's been awhile!
The entire Ticker staff will take its act on the road today in Stillwater and
Kingfisher to talk drought, so not a lot today. In preparing for our talks, the
sobering nature of the statistics we found continue to depress. In fact, maybe
they would be easier to take if you weren't sober.
It's now been up to 52 days since north central Oklahoma has seen a day with
at least a quarter inch of rain. Seems like just yesterday it was only 51 days.
Weird! These consecutive day counts are starting to add up across western parts
of the state as well, in addition to smaller areas central and northeastern
Oklahoma.
Ain't nothing pretty about that, and you can actually add a day to most since
it isn't going to rain today either. By the way, you go back that 52 days you
see up there at places like May ranch and Cherokee and the rainfall maps since
then are rather anemic looking.
That's a statewide average of 3.21", 2.8" below normal or about 53% of normal
over that span. For north central Oklahoma, it's 1.41", 3.39" below normal or
about 29% of normal.
Now there is some rain in the forecast for this weekend, supposedly. It's not
showing up on the 5-day totals, just yet, but you can start to see the hints.
