Potpourri

All eyes are on the thermometer today with highs expected to rise into the 80s
across the state, which should bring us close to some records today.

Of course, today's cold front will cool things down to more seasonable levels.
There doesn't look to be much in the way of really cold air, but a cool-off
nonetheless. Here are the forecast maps for the next couple of days.

More on (smile when you pronounce that, stranger!) the race between 1954 and
2012 for the state's hottest calender year. Things do not look good for 2012.
When you take a look at the numbers, it becomes clear 2012 is gonna need some
serious heat in November and December to keep up with 1954's pace. Here are
the statewide averages for the months from both years, including the running
average so you can see where they pulled apart, but then tightened again.
The hot summer of 1954 was of huge benefit to 1954 while it was spring that
vaulted 2012 ahead.

Looks like 2012 will need to be about 2.5 degrees above normal to just TIE
1954.
