Freezing temperatures arrive in state
Apologies to mentor and former Associate State Climatologist Howard Johnson for
my wording there. Of course temperatures can't freeze!
Faulty prose aside, Chalk up October 19th as the date of the first freeze in
the state (at least measured by an instrument) for the Fall 2011 season as the
Boise City, El Reno and Foraker Mesonet sites all reached lows of at least 32
degrees this morning.
Lots of low-to-upper 30s around so we probably had a lot of frost.
There's nothing really remarkable about the timing of this frost, other than it
comes on the heels of fairly warm October weather. The timing is in line with
our average first freeze dates. And remember, lots of earlier and later frosts
make up that average.
