NEW DIRECTOR OF OKLAHOMA CLIMATOLOGICAL SURVEY APPOINTED
NORMAN, Okla. ?Kevin Kloesel, current associate dean of the OU College of
Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences, recently was named as the new director of
the Oklahoma Climatological Survey.
?Kevin was the right candidate for the OCS director position for numerous
reasons,? said Berrien Moore III, dean of the OU College of Atmospheric and
Geographic Sciences and director of the National Weather Center. ?His current
responsibilities within the college and at the National Weather Center require
him to interact with a variety of agencies and the public across a wide array
of complex weather and climate issues, and he does this extremely well. This
capability will serve him and our state well as he meets the Climate Survey?s
directive to provide understandable and useful information to Oklahomans. Kevin
also understands the importance of teamwork, and he will strengthen the already
strong ties between Oklahoma State University and OU.?
Kloesel also has been named an associate professor in the College of Atmospheric
and Geographic Sciences and will continue to serve as associate dean. As a
tenured faculty member, Kloesel will teach a variety of atmospheric and
geographic science courses and mentor both graduate and undergraduate students.
?Kevin?s leadership positions within the OU weather community will allow him to
lead the Oklahoma Climatological Survey in meeting not only its current
responsibilities but to take on successfully new and emerging challenges in the
future,? said Moore.
?OCS has a long history of being at the forefront of devising innovative ways
of providing weather and climate data for decision making,? said Kloesel. ?I am
thrilled to get to work with really talented people at the front lines of some
very complex and challenging scientific issues.?
Kloesel has served as the Oklahoma Climatological Survey?s interim director
since January 2010, and he served as its director of outreach from 1999 to 2004.
The Oklahoma Climatological Survey
