Oklahoma Mesonet shows temperature swing of 102 degrees in only six days
It took six days for Beaver to go from 82 degrees on January 26 to -19 degrees on
February 1 back in 1951 for a single-week temperature swing of 101 degrees.
Waynoka's 100-degree swing in only THREE days was possibly more impressive,
from -15 degrees on January 19 to 85 degrees on January 22, 1943. Those two were
the top temperature swings to occur within a one-week period in Oklahoma's
climate history, dating back to 1892, and the only swings in triple-digits.
Emphasis on the "were".
Five Oklahoma Mesonet stations had broken into triple-digit temperature-swing
territory as of 4 p.m., with three of those at a 102-degree spread in the last
six days.

Impressive, impressive, impressive.
Ever wonder what a Mesonet meteogram would look like with a 102-degree temperature
swing on it? Here ya go, from Cherokee:
With another warm day due tomorrow, I would expect more stations to break
that 100-degree swing within the 7-day window. Sorry Nowata, you were beaten
to the punch. Your turn may come tomorrow.
Special thanks to Dr. Mark Shafer for his work on the pick-axe mining those
old temperature swings!
