OCS, Mesonet and ARM Host Weather Science Fair Tomorrow!

The following announcement comes from Andrea Melvin, who Managers
OCS's K-12 Educational Outreach Program:

In Oklahoma, you?re never too young to start learning about weather.

Tomorrow, over 100 elementary, middle and high school students from
all over the state will gather on the University of Oklahoma?s Norman
campus to compete in the 12th annual Mesonet/ARM Science Fair.
The fair, which is sponsored by the Oklahoma Climatological Survey,
the Oklahoma Mesonet and the U.S. Department of Energy's Atmospheric
Radiation Measurement Program, is scheduled from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm
in the first floor atria of Sarkeys Energy Center, 100 E. Boyd St.

Entries in categories ranging from weather forecasting to how weather
affects human behavior will be displayed and evaluated by volunteer
judges, including meteorologists from OU?s School of Meteorology,
the Oklahoma Climatological Survey and the Cooperative Institute
for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies.

While students display their projects inside, OU meteorology professor
Michael Biggerstaff will demonstrate the SMART Radar outside on the
west side of the Sarkeys Energy Center. SMART Radar, which allows
researchers to look at an entire storm system, is used to track cold
fronts, tropical storms and hurricanes.

OU faculty, staff, graduate students and undergraduate students will
tour the science fair and interact with the students. Students from
Enid, Tulsa, Shattuck, Duncan, and Oklahoma City will share their
research.
