Happy Birthday!

The Ticker extends warm birthday greetings to its big brother:
the Oklahoma Mesonet. Nine years ago today, a Capitol ceremony
officially launched the network for commissioned use.

After about a billion and a half core observations, five thousand
site visits (and nearly as many instrument replacements), scores
of Oklahoma supercells, four droughts, three major ice storms,
angry lightning, hungry gophers, cozy spiders, birds of prey
with very poor bathroom habits, and one horse with an itchy back,
the network chugs forward.

By the way, today marks the 10th birthday of two western Mesonet
sites: Hollis and Erick.
