Weekend Rainfall: Good Amounts, Bad Aim

This weekend's rainfall was certainly welcome across Oklahoma.
Unfortunately, the portions of the state which were most lacking for
the last several months received the least. The next two maps show
rainfall since Friday afternoon and percentage of normal rainfall
since October 1, respectively:

Notice that the less-than-an-inch region from teh first map co-habitates
almost exactly the same area as the less-than-half-of-normal region
of the second map.

Support Your Local Rule of Thumb

Typically (but not always), overcast skies are coincident with
smaller daily temperature ranges. That's the case seen in today's
Mesonet data. Take a look at today's high and low temperatures versus
normal:

Afternoon temperatures were generally much less than normal, while
early morning lows were generally warmer than normal. That's a
pretty reliable indication of a smaller-than-normal temperature range.
