Renewable Energy Conference to be Held in OKC

April is certainly a great month to highlight the potential use of
Oklahoma's wind! The following is an announcement about a conference
to be held in Oklchoma City next week. Mesonet data is one of the tools
mentioned below:

---

Two of Oklahoma's most promising yet untapped sources of power and
economic development will be discussed during "Wind Power and Bioenergy:
Oklahoma Crops of the 21st Century," a one-day conference to be held
Thursday, April 11, at the Cox Business Services Convention Center
(formerly the Myriad) in downtown Oklahoma City.

David K. Garman, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable
Energy, U.S. Department of Energy, will deliver the luncheon address.
Other national and state experts will present on topics dealing with
technical feasibility's, economic development potentials, small wind
systems, distributed power generation, and more. Because of a keen
interest in Oklahoma's potential, at least 8 companies specializing in
large wind farm development will attend this conference, as will several
large turbine manufacturers.

OU is a leading cosponsor for this event. Dr. John Snow, Dean of the
College of Geosciences, will give a presentation entitled "Precision
Meso-scale Weather Forecasting for Operational Decisions in Wind
Generation" in a session focusing on research opportunities in wind
power and bioenergy. Tim Hughes, Director of OU's Oklahoma Wind Power
Initiative, based at the Environmental Verification and Analysis Center,
will present in the morning session on "OWPI Activities & Oklahoma Wind
Resource Assessment Tools".

Registration and check-in open at 7 a.m. Conference sessions start at
8:30 a.m. and will conclude at 5 p.m. A tutorial workshop for those
interested in learning the basics about wind energy will be held from
1:30 to 4 p.m. April 10 at the Cox Center. Mike Bergey, president of
Bergey Windpower Co., based in Norman, will lead the tutorial.

Registration for the conference is $25 for private citizens (and those
in academia), $75 for professionals and $10 for students and senior
citizens (fees include breaks and lunch). Registration for the April 10
tutorial is $15. More information can be found at the conference web
