The Mesonet Welcomes its New QA Manager

One challenge of operating the world's foremost automated mesoscale
environmental monitoring network is tracking the network's performance
and accuracy of the millions upon millions of observations generated
every month. The Oklahoma Mesonet's highly-recognized and well-published
quality assurance (QA) program includes instrument technicians, lab
personnel, student operators, and a QA Manager willing to pore over
(forgive the Ticker staff) Gobs of Obs.

If an observation needs investigating, the QA Manager does so, and may
decide to replace an instrument and/or "flag" Mesonet data until the
situation is resolved. The QA software developed by the Oklahoma Mesonet
has detected a number of very strange, but very real events (more about
those in coming Tickers).

Our QA Manager of several years, Chris Fiebrich, recently became the
manager of the Mesonetwork. So, we welcome a new face to the QA office:
Janet Martinez. She's the newest talented addition to the QA program
and is already neck-deep in data and enjoying it.
