Morning Frost in Oklahoma

This morning, temperatures dipped below freezing for a few hours at
several Oklahoma Mesonet stations. The duration of these sub-freezing
temperatures, plus the minimum temperature observed, is available at:



This map includes data from October 15th, but the only sub-freezing
temperatures on that date occurred in the western panhandle. In other
words, for the vast majority of the state, the numbers represent this
morning's frost.

How do these numbers compare to historical data? This freeze in
northern and western Oklahoma occurred a week or two before the median
date for a first autumn freeze. However, a mid-October freeze is
hardly unprecedented in these regions.
