Newsflash: June's Been Soggy

June 2000 may not quite make the total precipitation records, but
what it's lacked in brute strength, it's made up for with consistency.
Including this morning's rains, Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City
has observed measurable precipitation on 16 of the first 28 days of
June. This breaks the previous record for the entire month set way
back in (drum roll, please) ... 1999, when measurable precip fell
at Will Rogers Airport on 15 June days.

Some more June rainfall facts, courtesy of climatologist Mark Shafer
of the OCS Service Branch:

Number of days with measureable precip:
16 2000 (through June 28; includes 0.96" today)
15 1999
14 1992

Number of days with >= 0.10 inch:
12 2000 (through June 28; includes 0.96" today)
11 1992, 1989, 1962, 1957
10 1999

Number of days with >= 0.50 inch:
8 1989
6 1999
3 2000 (through June 28; includes 0.96" today)

Number of days with >= 1.00 inch:
6 1989
3 1999
2 2000 (through June 28)

June 1989 had the highest number of days with one inch of rain (also
half inch); 6 of the 12 days of rain had one inch or more!

June 2000 set a record for the number of days with measurable rain
and number of days with a tenth of an inch or more, but only two of
the days (so far) had more than an inch. This is remarkably similar
to 1999, which had 15 days of measureable precipitation and only
three days of one inch or more.

While this may be the soggiest OKC June in terms of number of rainy
days, it is nowhere near the record for most rainfall (14.66" in June
1989). The normal is 4.31" and through this afternoon, June 2000 had
"only" 6.00" (including 0.96" this morning). June 1999 saw 8.61" of
rain.
