most of Oklahoma, the transition from warm and wet late spring
conditions to hot and dry summers usually occurs some time in June.

In the Oklahoma panhandle, June marks the beginning or peak of the
rainiest time of the year.

On This Date in Oklahoma Weather History

On June 1, 1917 a large tornado struck Coalgate and adjacent areas of
Coal County. Fourteen persons were killed and more then 75 were
injured. According to _Significant Tornadoes_ by Tom Grazulis, a
book was carried from Coalgate and dropped inside the walls of the
state prison in McAlester, 40 miles northeast of Coalgate.
