Interesting Show Scheduled for Tomorrow Morning
For the rest of this week, celestial celebrities Jupiter and Saturn will
put on a rare joint appearance during the early morning hours. The two
planets will be only 1.2 degrees apart on the ENE horizon, the closest
they will be for the next 20 years!
The event is a conjunction, which occurs as Jupiter passes by Saturn
(from our vantage point, anyway) as they make their laps around the sun.
Even better, tomorrow morning the two planets have booked an appearance
with the earth's own crescent Moon. Jupiter will be to the upper left
of Saturn and the Moon will be to Saturn's upper right. This appearance
is scheduled for roughly 40 minutes before sunrise (sunrise occurs about
6:05 CDT in eastern Oklahoma to about 6:25 CDT in western Oklahoma).
The two planets may be tough to spot in the twilight preceding sunrise,
but it's worth a shot!
Jupiter and Saturn will slowly drift apart in June and July.
