Hot, Dry, Windy Conditions Persist
Oklahoma continued a hot, dry trend, as temperatures in the western
half of the state soared above 100 F yet again. Today marks the tenth
straight day that 100+ highs have been observed by the Mesonet. Hollis,
Hooker and Erick have been at or above 100 F on each of those days.
As of 4pm, 32 Mesonet stations had observed high temperatures at or
above 100 F.
In the western panhandle town of Boise City, the dew point temperature
dipped to -3 F during the three o'clock hour. The air temperature at
the time was 101 F. The relative humidity: 2%. The heat index: LESS
than 85 F.
Wind gusts above 30 MPH have been commonplace west of I-35 today.

Fire Danger Indices Remain Very High
With the persistent conditions, the Oklahoma Fire Danger Model has
indicated very high fire danger indices for western portions of the
state. The model indicates dead fuel moisture values as low as 1%
in the panhandle for small kindling such as grass clippings and paper.
The Oklahoma Dept. of Agriculture Forestry Services division has issued
a Red Flag Fire Alert for 14 counties in southwestern Oklahoma and the
Oklahoma Panhandle.
