Okay, who pushed the reset button?

Yesterday's Mesoscale Convective System (MCS -- slang for a big glob of storms
that congealed together) not only brought the state some much-needed rainfall, it
also brought us a nice cool down as well. So the streak of days above 100 degrees
has finally ended at 50 for those last stations in southwestern Oklahoma.

SoHollis, Altus, Tipton, Grandfield and Walters win the prize for 2011's longest
consecutive day streak above 100, still well below the all-time record of 70
consecutive days at Hammon in 1980. But again, 50 is nothing to sneeze at ...
it's good enough for third place on the all-time list!

Historical consecutive 100-degree days in a year
1: HAMMON - 70 days (1980-06-24 - 1980-09-01)
2: FREDERICK - 52 days (1934-07-03 - 1934-08-23)
3: Hollis/Altus/Tipton/Grandfield/Walters - 50 days (2011-06-22 - 2011-08-11)
8: WAUKOMIS - 45 days (1934-07-08 - 1934-08-21)
9: WALTERS - 45 days (1980-06-23 - 1980-08-06)
10: PAULS VALLEY - 45 days (1934-07-08 - 1934-08-21)
10: HENNESSEY - 45 days (1934-07-08 - 1934-08-21)

As for days above 100 degrees (not consecutive), the high number still stands
at Grandfield's 78.

That's good for #11 on the all-time list and nine away from breaking the record.

Historical 100-degree days in a year
1: HOLLIS - 86 days in 1956
2: BLACKWELL - 86 days in 1956
3: HEALDTON - 83 days in 1980
4: WALTERS (Mesonet) - 83 days in 1998
5: CHATTANOOGA - 82 days in 1998
6: WOODWARD - 81 days in 1896
7: HOLLIS - 81 days in 1952
8: HOLLIS - 81 days in 1939
9: FREDERICK - 81 days in 1954
10: CHATTANOOGA - 79 days in 1980
(note: Temperature data wa missing for Blackwell on 9/6/1956 but nearby
stations show it would not have been a 100-degree day)

Yesterday's mix of highs and lows predominantly in the 80s and 60s look mighty
nice, even if it doesn't last long.

In fact, the statewide average temperature (all the highs and lows averaged
together) of 78 degrees makes yesterday the coolest day since May 27th when it
was 72.7 degrees.

BRRR!!! When will this cold weather end??
