Our cup runneth low

This isn't how to run a fall. Some sez Autumn, I sez fall.

Temperatures off the charts (well, ON the charts, but really high), no rainfall
to speak of for most of us. Heck (no, it's NOT raining right now, for crying out
loud!), even the State Fair(s) weather failed us on that one. Downright pitiful.

We've had like 2 or 3 below-normal spurts through fall thus far, but other than
that, mostly just warm, warmer, and warmest, culminating in this week's
record-ish cold weather on Monday to record-ish warmth for the next 3 days.

You wanna know how frigging nuts this is? LOOK AT SATURDAY'S FORECAST LOWS!

I mean, these temperatures are 15-20 degrees above normal.

That ain't normal. Literally.

Normally (see there?), I'd say this weather is wonderful, except none of this
helps the drought situation. Continues much-above normal temps continue to aid
evaporation, and any plants that didn't croak or go dormant with the freezes
still think it's time to grow and use up that soil moisture.

The National Drought Mitigation Center's Flash Drought Indicator, which is
calculated using a weighted average of four drought indicators, along with a
weighted average of their strongest category changes, has burned a hole across
much of southern Oklahoma the last couple of weeks.

And our dry spells continue to grow to 2-3 weeks before being interrupted each
time, which is no way to run a rainfall budget.

Hopes for relief soon? I mean, maybe? All these wonderful looking rainfall
forecast maps are hopeful on days 6 and 7, but they never come to fruition, which
is how droughts work.

Things look hopeful after this week, at least, so let's hope that's not more
than we can, uhhhhhh...hope for.
