NYET!

Hey, I don't know if John Malkovich's portrayal of Teddy the Russian Gangster in
the movie "Rounders" was a masterpiece or a horror story, but that accent was
glorious.

Now some of you probably don't think the weather has been glorious either, as
summer set back in for the last week or so. Well, for much of the state at least.

The rain across NW OK, both recent and in the last month, has kept the
temperatures a bit more under control in that part of the state.

Still, it could be worse (or better, depending on your perspective). Most would
say we've been pretty lucky.

To me, summer heat without any hundreds is like asking for Hostess Cupcakes
but getting Zingers instead (when in reality, you should have asked for the
king of all Hostess snack cakes: Hohos...fight me!). And we've had more
Zingers than Cupcakes this summer, in all parts of the state.

Wow, that's not too impressive at all for an Oklahoma summer. Well, until you
add in the humidity, and there ain't nothing in this world worse than a soggy
cupcake!

Those chances for triple-digits are diminishing as we go deeper into September,
but they're definitely not zero. The Altus Mesonet site hit 100 as late as
October 14 just a few years ago in 2020, so keep that in mind. And the latest
triple-digit temperatures I can find in the state occurred on Oct 17, 2016. The
Mesonet sites at Buffalo, Beaver, Slapout and May Ranch all hit 100 that day,
with Buffalo topping out at 102 degrees. The Beaver and Gate NWS COOP sites
show 100s as well on the 18th, but those temperatures were recorded the morning
of the 18th, so those undoubtedly came on the 17th. So let's call it the 17th,
with Buffalo (the greatest place in the state...fight me, again!) leading the
way at 102 degrees.

But, into each life a bit of fall must, uhhhhhhhhh...fall.

Like this Friday, sorta.
