Okies Like Us

Who else is frazzled? You frazzled? I'm frazzled. To have that wind just
constantly blowing incessantly (redundant, anyone?) makes you frazzled. The
constant sound from INSIDE your house, let alone having to be outside in it.

It wasn't the windiest day in Mesonet history, at least according to the number
of severe wind gusts, but it wasn't far off. In terms of max wind gusts of at
least 50 mph (a speed many Okies thin is appropriate for the left lane of the
Interstate), 62 comes in at 6th place, behind #1's 83 from March 31, 2023.

If we go up to at least 60 mph, yesterday's 24 comes in 4th place behind #1's 41
from May 27, 2001.

That date also holds the Mesonet record for sites at 70 mph or above with 15,
so no wish to revisit that day's wind tunnel.

Today's gusts are no picnic, either, and a lot of these are responsible for
keeping you up half the night with the whooshings and whatnot.

If you ate Taco Bell, THE WHOOSHINGS ARE COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE!

Things have and will continue to calm just a bit, but this huge windmaker is
still cranking away over much of the Southern Plains and Southeast U.S.

I sure don't appreciate the wind chills, making 30s feel like 20s (as opposed
to my body, making 50s feel like 80s).

We will continue with windy conditions on and off through the weekend (it IS
March, after all) as we go through occasional frontal passages and elevated fire
weather concerns.

Who wanted rain for the weekend??

Well there ya go.
