Ticker Tock
I have very little to say today, which usually means I say a lot...the fun is in
OVERDOING it, isn't it? But I'm actually pressed for time so let's do a little
sum-up of our November rainfall now that skies have finally cleared inn all but
southeast Oklahoma. Even the snow is gone from the western OK Panhandle.
Darn, that's downright boring (hey, Downright Boring was my band's name in
everybody's thoughts that ever listened to us!), which is a good thing I reckon
after all the flooding and tornadoes this month. Oh yeah, the the rainfall sum-up.
So we ended yesterday with a statewide average of 7.85 inches for November, which
I have said easily bests our previous record of 6.05 inches for November 2015.
We blew that one out of the water (BA-DUM-BUM!). Thanks, I'll be here all week!
Be sure and tip your servers.
But here's an even more incredible statistic...November 2024's statewide average
rainfall total (with 11 more days to go) places it as the 16th-wettest month
since records began in 1895.
That's 1559 months in total, and Nov. 2024 is wetter than 1543 of them.
Incredible, ain't it? Here's the listing of the top-20 wettest months in Oklahoma
history.
Year Month Total
2015 May 14.44
2019 May 11.61
1941 Oct 10.75
1957 May 10.54
1982 May 10.38
1943 May 9.66
2007 Jun 9.51
1902 May 9.14
1950 Jul 9.07
1923 Oct 8.73
1908 Jun 8.50
1942 Apr 8.32
1908 May 8.09
1957 Apr 8.04
1987 May 7.92
2024 Nov 7.85
1921 Jun 7.82
1935 May 7.82
1989 Jun 7.78
1945 Sep 7.76
Even more remarkably, this November managed to break out of the warm-season
domination of those wettest months. I guess it's debatable given a couple of
Octobers in there, but November 2024 is the only COLD month, I guess, which I'd
define as November through February. In fact, there's not even another Nov-Feb
month in the top 100 except for November 2015, whose record we just broke.
Incredible again, ain't it?
Well, I'll leave you with a bit of fantasy-cast excitement to mull over (and we
all know just how painful that can be!) since our weather is gonna be decidedly
boring for the next week...how about Snowsgiving next week?
Exciting! At least until the next model run when it disappears.
